As the holidays and cold weather approach, candles can make us feel cozy and happy! But it’s important to keep in mind that they are still an open flame and potential fire hazard. Thousands of home fires start every year due to candles. According to the National Fire Protection Association, the number may be as high as 8,200 annually. So be sure to never leave a candle unattended. Never burn a candle near anything that may catch fire. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Always trim the wick to ¼ inch, to prevent uneven burning. Having a working smoke alarm is one of the greatest tools for fire safety, so be sure to check your smoke alarms regularly.
